Activities and purpose

The project

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the craft sector are confronted with a wide range of complex challenges: digital transformation, the shortage of skilled workers, and in particular the need to address climate change and the energy crisis require innovative and sustainable solutions from companies. At the same time, many SMEs in the craft sector are faced with the issue of business succession. Studies show that the next generations have recognized how important sustainability and innovation are for ensuring the future viability and competitiveness of SMEs in the craft sector. However, they often lack the knowledge and skills needed to successfully develop and implement innovative and sustainable solutions and business models.

The objective of the “SUNrise” project is therefore to highlight innovation pathways for future (young) entrepreneurs, providing them with a systematic process structure supported by suitable and tested tools and methods to enable successful sustainable transformation of existing business models in craft-sector SMEs. At the same time, the project develops recommendations for intermediaries, education providers, and policymakers so they understand these needs and can incorporate them into future support services.
