The project

In the Alpine region, dolomite was used in historic mortar and plaster for wall paintings and stucco decorations. In combination with environmental sulphate contamination and/or gypsum as well as moisture, massive damage problems arise that endanger the survival of the cultural heritage. Using modern material analysis methods in the laboratory and practice-oriented investigations on representative objects, damage phenomena are researched on a basic scientific level and transdisciplinary conclusions are drawn for conservation and restoration practice.
