Activities and purpose

The project

The construction sector must make a significant contribution to achieving sustainability goals. This can only be achieved if construction measures can be assessed ecologically, economically, and socially and compared with clear targets. Initial approaches are currently focused on building construction but do not take a holistic view of the entire life cycle. Infrastructure buildings offer great potential for improvement and optimization due to their generally high material requirements. The aim of the project is to develop and apply criteria for the sustainability assessment of projects specifically for civil engineering in the Alpine region and to develop a holistic and transparent web-based assessment tool for infrastructure buildings that takes into account the pillars of sustainability and regional conditions. This tool will serve as a decision-making aid and control system in planning, tendering, awarding, and execution. The basis for this is the collection of recordable and assessable indicators. Cross-border cooperation between local stakeholders is a basic prerequisite for combining national and regional guidelines in a European context and ensuring the success of the project in the Alpine region.
