Activities and purpose

The project

The project, completed in 2019, addressed the challenges of climate change in the Terra Raetica area, an arid Alpine region prone to weather fluctuations. The project included several measures to raise awareness and involve local stakeholders, including the establishment of a central climate contact point, which provided advice, support and information material; the organization of climate workshops for schools, where pupils could learn about the basic scientific concepts of climate change and its consequences for the Alpine region; the initiation of exchange meetings between farmers, foresters and representatives from politics and society to share experiences, best practices and innovation proposals in the production sectors most affected by climate change; the implementation of pilot projects in the areas of water, energy and tourism, such as the restoration of a fire-fighting system; and the implementation of a pilot project in the areas of water, energy and tourism. For example, the restoration of a fire-fighting pond in Schluderns, which is also equipped with a well to supply hikers, or the use of the potential of the summer season as an alternative to the strong winter season. The “KLIMA” project has thus helped to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of the Alpine communities involved and to promote greater awareness and participation in the issue of climate change.
