The project

The ICAWER project develops a cross-border concept for innovative wastewater and energy recovery. Sewage plants are among the largest consumers of municipal energy while at the same time being able to make energy available by producing methane. By increasing energy efficiency, that is, reducing self-consumption and increasing biogas production, sewage treatment plants will be able to meet their own needs. Therefore, with this project, ICAWER wants to work jointly on this frontier, taking advantage of similar infrastructure in the territories, ecological regulations and guidelines, transferring technologies and methods, and exploiting the potential for efficiency due to geographical differences.
