Activities and purpose

The project

The project “HERBIA – Herbal Knowledge for Resilient Biodiversity in the Alpine Region” is based on innovative, cross-border cooperation between three partner organizations from Salzburg and South Tyrol. Kräuterschlössl GmbH (IT), TEH Verein (AT), and the Vintlerhof bio-social farm (IT) aim to strengthen and sustainably preserve biodiversity in the Alpine regions through the use and dissemination of traditional herbal knowledge, extensive awareness-raising measures, and research on climate resilience. As part of HERBIA, various educational and informational initiatives will be implemented to make practical herbal knowledge—both ancient and modern—accessible to a broad population across the program area in an inclusive manner and to promote awareness and understanding of the complex relationships between biodiversity and climate change. An innovative element of the project is the creation of a digital herb garden featuring aromatic and medicinal herbs, which complements the hands-on herb experiences at all locations. Through cross-border cooperation and exchange, HERBIA will serve as a model project demonstrating how regional resources can be leveraged to effectively address global challenges.
