Activities and purpose

The project

With two concrete case studies in the cities of Pordenone and Klagenfurt, this project aims to develop a systemic plan for the regeneration of urban areas to improve public accessibility with a strong focus on sustainability. Specific examples include the redesign of the Klagenfurt bus station and the urban canals (rogge) in Pordenone—areas that are currently only partially accessible—to encourage residents to return to and experience these spaces.

Through a shared master plan, the project seeks to revitalize areas affected by pollution or urban decay by creating green spaces planted with native flora that is resilient or adaptable to climate change. The operational plan involves the application of cutting-edge expertise in area mapping (remote sensing), the promotion of native species, the assessment of climatic impacts (heat), and the planning and quantification of interventions based on public participation processes, provided by the University of Udine and Joanneum Research. There will be a strong emphasis on citizen engagement through a process of information, training, and the co-creation of the livability and accessibility of these areas.
