Activities and purpose

The project

This project is dedicated to the protection and welfare of our furry companions and the fight against illegal transport and trade from Eastern Europe. The regions of Carinthia and Friuli-Venezia Giulia are not only destinations but also transit routes for our beloved pets. In fact, black market animals, i.e., illegally trafficked, are not subject to health controls and can therefore carry serious diseases that could affect humans. BIOCRIME trains veterinarians, as well as foresters and police officers, to check and monitor animals of dubious origin. The other side of the project is aimed at the public. Through providing information, they try to slow down the trade and one day, hopefully, stop it completely.
