Last week, partners of the “METAWOOD – Metamaterials and Applied Training for Multi-storey Timber Buildings” project met in Innsbruck (Austria).

The meeting, organised by the University of Innsbruck, took place at the Institute of Civil Engineering and Materials Science – Wood Technology Unit of the University on 12-13 September 2024.

After an initial greeting and welcome by Anton Kraler (University of Innsbruck), the first day was opened by the Lead Partner Centro Consorzi (Edoardo Ebone, Alice Ielmini and Sara Rosset – Communication Manager) who gave an initial introduction in relation to the administrative aspects and the progress of the project communication activities. Afterwards, Studio Gallian (technical consultant of the LP – Centro Consorzi) presented the progress of the project activities related to WP3, which aims to identify the different phases of the life cycle of timber buildings through analysis activities, data sharing of the timber supply chain, and codification of construction processes through the use of advanced LCA software. Sophia Reuß, Ina Schmäche (University of Innsbruck) and Marco Caniato (University of Bozen/Bolzano) then illustrated the first developments and results of the activities related to WP2 of metamaterials research and development by opening a moment of discussion among all partners. The first day of work ended with an interesting visit to the laboratories of the Institute of Technical Sciences and a project dinner in the centre of Innsbruck.

On the second working day, Martina Gherlenda and Enrico Tezza (Apriformazione) gave a presentation on the progress of the activities of WP4, whose aim is to improve training in order to bridge the gap of specialised professional figures in the timber construction sector in Italy and Austria. The focus was particularly on orientation and training needs analysis activities.

During the two days, the partners discussed and planned together the next activities to be developed in the different WPs and agreed that the next partner meeting will be organised by Apriformazione in Vicenza.
