Consultation about EU Budget
The European Commission has launched a major initiative to design the next EU long-term budget (Multiannual Financial Framework, MFF), which will take effect in 2028.
This budget will be key to funding Europe’s priorities, from economic growth to security, sustainability, and innovation.
With rising challenges and expectations, the Commission emphasizes the need for a simpler, more impactful, and future-proof budget. Proposed reforms include a stronger focus on strategic investments, modernized funding mechanisms, and additional safeguards for the rule of law.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlighted the importance of public participation:
“The next long-term budget will empower our Union’s shared vision for the future. It translates our common priorities into tangible action, which makes a difference for millions of citizens, businesses, regions, and researchers.”
To ensure the budget reflects the needs of Europeans, the Commission has launched public consultations open for the next 12 weeks. Citizens, businesses, and stakeholders can share their views through online consultations or participate in a Citizens’ Panel, where 150 Europeans will debate and propose recommendations.
