Workshop of the project SENECA
On December 17 and 18, 2024, the first workshop of the EU co-financed Interreg Italy-Austria research project SENECA will take place in the seminar room of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Udine.
The aim of SENECA is to decipher the processes of cellular aging and to search for new therapeutic agents to influence senescence, thereby gaining an advantage in the fight against cancer. Senescence is understood as the state of a cell in which no further cell division takes place – this state can be the result of an aging process.
The workshop in Udine will provide an opportunity to present project progress, discuss results, and plan further steps. Participants in the meeting include the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Udine, the Department of Chemical Sciences and Pharmacology at the University of Trieste, the Center for Biomedicine at Eurac Research, and the Department of Biosciences and Medical Biology at the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg. Following the workshop, a public event will be organized in collaboration with the Toppo-Wassermann College. Prof. Marco Demaria will speak on cellular senescence, aging, and cancer, as well as the possibilities of pharmacological interventions to treat senescence. Prof. Demaria is a world expert in the field of cellular senescence and is currently Professor of Cellular Aging and Senescence at the European Research Institute for the Biology of Aging and Director of the Institute for Mechanisms of Health, Aging, and Disease, both at the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands. Additionally, Prof. Demaria is also the President of the International Cell Senescence Association (ICSA). The seminars will be conducted in English.
